WOW. We are SO grateful to everyone who came out to our official launch party at Cedar Street Courtyard a few weeks back. We are still overwhelmed by how successful the night was - more successful than any of us could have dreamed of - and we are so proud of our very large family of musicians who gave such incredible performances throughout the night. We feel so lucky to work with such a giant pool of true talent. Big thank you to Cambrella Photography for capturing the night! You can check out the photo album here.
If you were there, hopefully you were able to see all four, exclusive Moontower bands -- PDA, Matchmaker Band's 16-piece orchestra option, Love & Happiness Band, and Tonic808. In case you missed them, click on each band name to see what we've been working so hard on these past few months.
The night kicked off with Tonic808 - a female-fronted DJ/live band fusion project that covers anything from Hall & Oates to Ella Fitzgerald to Adele to OutKast. The band's staple pieces include two female singers, a female DJ, drums, keys and a horn -- a sultry trumpet for Tuesday's event. Combining the versatility of a DJ with the live energy of a band, Tonic provided the perfect energy to get the party started. Highlights of the set included Chaka Kahn's "Tell Me Something Good," Corinne Bailey Rae's "Girl, Put Your Records On" and Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy."
Up next was another new Moontower project - Love & Happiness Band - who has quickly taken off despite the newness of the project. Already holding down a Thursday night residency at Austin-favorite Icenhauer's, Love & Happiness specializes in soul, but in a unique way that Austin hasn't seen before. L&H covers old school soul classics like Al Green, Marvin Gaye and The Supremes, while also adding in new guilty pleasure crowd pleasers for the '90s R&B-lover in all of us. Set favorites included Prince's "Kiss," Destiny's Child's "Say My Name, TLC's "Creep" and Beyonce's "Love On Top."
The hype of the night was Moontower's newest project, PDA Band, who performed for the first time ever at the launch party. PDA aims to provide a live, authentic boy band experience. Their repertoire covers all of the quintessential boy bands hits you love to pretend to hate all the way to the top-40 male jams of today. Their brief, but ever-so-satisfying, set showcased the versatility of their song list: N'sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye," Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling," All-4-One's "I Swear," Ginuwine's "Pony" and Backstreet Boys' "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." The four lead singers all brought a different element to the table, just like Brian vs. Nick, and had the entire show smoothly choreographed move-for-move. They won't be performing publicly again until March, however, at that time, they will have a full three-hour performance ready - something to look forward to! Which also means they will be available for private bookings in March, so snag them while you can.
The icing on the cake was Austin's beloved Matchmaker Band's 16-piece Orchestra Option performing in their home city for the first time ever. Take the high energy, all-out party of Matchmaker that you are used to, and add in three strings, percussion, and two extra horns, and you've got the awesomeness that is the 16-Piece Orchestra Option. Songs like Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough," Earth, Wind and Fire's "September" and The BeeGee's "You Should Be Dancing" were able to come completely to life with the added instrumentation that skillfully nailed those famous percussion solos and catchy orchestral lines. As always, Matchmaker Band left everyone on a high.
Massive thank you to our fabulous sponsors of the VIP section - Sourced Cocktails, Newk's Catering and Tito's Vodka. More to come about these delicious friends of ours in future blogs, but we absolutely could not have made this night happen without them. Much love to Cedar Street and all three!
Thank you SO much to everyone who celebrated such an exciting time with us. The support meant so much to both the Moontower team and all of the musicians involved. At Moontower, we strive to curate incredible musical experiences for your special private event, but, perhaps more importantly, we strive to keep Austin musical and keep all of these wonderful musicians in Austin and working. We can't wait to provide more win-win opportunities in the coming year.
Until next time... We love you, Austin!
